Wave Tube

This interactive exhibit graphically illustrates the effects of variations in frequency and amplitude on standing waves. As sound is generated, waves are graphically represented in foam beads as they align themselves with the associated sound's waveform. The exhibit is activated by an illuminated push-button and runs for a preset amount of time. Users have control of both frequency and amplitude by manipulating levers on the exhibit's control panel. We can also integrate a microphone providing the option to excite the beads with one's voice! This stimulating display consists of a sturdy, eight-inch diameter acrylic tube partially filled with small Styrofoam beads. On one end of the tube is a speaker connected to an amplifier and variable frequency generator. Please contact us with any questions and to learn how Science Kinetics can work with you in designing a Wave Tube for your facility!
